Introducing PASSPORT Host Datastream Class Library
Zephyr is pleased to announce the introduction of the PASSPORT Host Datastream Class Library (HDCL), a programmatic integration server that offers developers direct access to the 3270, 5250 and VT datastream (both display and host printer sessions). Using the Zephyr solution with TN3270, TN5250 and VT220 communications, programmers can build advanced host print servers, migrate LUA RUI applications from SNA to IP, which in turn can eliminate the need for IBM and Microsoft SNA gateways, and much more. As an example of the potential use of the Zephyr product, many organizations continue to use host printing, whether from an IBM zSeries mainframe, iSeries AS/400 midrange or UNIX server. Using PASSPORT HDCL, a developer could take a standard IBM 3287 LU 1 or 3 mainframe host printer session and programmatically output the information to multiple formats, including PDF, HTML, fax or file. This requirement can be found in banks, hotels, car rental agencies, hospitals, universities and state and local governments that continue to use host applications and need to output statements, receipts, invoices, reservations, class schedules, tax information, etc.

Another similar example would be the ability to connect to a mainframe that supports IPDS (Intelligent Printer Data Stream) printing and redirect the host printer datastream to an IPDS printer (internal printing device), printer driver or IPDS processing software. The non-intrusive PASSPORT HDCL can also be used as a migration tool for existing client and server-based solutions that use the LUA-RUI interface found in Microsoft SNA Server, Microsoft Host Integration Server and the PC-based IBM Communications Server. LUA-RUI applications are common in the financial services and banking industries. With PASSPORT HDCL, organizations can eliminate the need for the SNA-based IBM and Microsoft LAN gateways and communicate directly with 3270 hosts using TCP/IP (in addition to 3270, Zephyr has expanded the interface to include 5250 and UNIX connections).
Since SNA networks can require the use of expensive lease lines and force organizations to maintain parallel networks, significant savings can be realized in switching to IP. A printer ink cartridge usually contains a print head and circuitry. At the bottom of an inkjet cartridge are nozzles or what is commonly referred to as "jets". There can be from 50 to several hundred of these nozzles. Each of these nozzles is smaller in diameter than a human hair.
