Building upon its award-winning reputation, Flery Manor now offers a new art studio to complement its spectacular breakfasts and scenic views. Guests are encouraged to visit the studio during their stay -- on their own or with the innkeepers, John and Marla Vidrinskas. It's hard to imagine that anyone could resist using the art studio. Guests can choose from abundant media and supplies: canvas, clay, paint, paper, pencil, watercolors, etc. The wonderful light and serenity are perfect for creating art or enjoying other pursuits such as music, photography, or writing. Beautiful natural surroundings provide inspiration, with a seasonal stream as well as pastures, ponds, waterfalls, wildlife, and woodlands. Decks, gardens, lawns, landscaped areas, and a gazebo also beckon, while hand-raised black swans (Romeo and Juliet) continue the Manor's romantic themes from the interior to the outdoors. To make the introduction to art less intimidating than facing a blank sketchbook or canvas, Flery Manor is offering hand tinting this month. Four black and white prints of pastoral scenes at the Manor are available for "coloring". Pencils, pens, oils, or tints are supplied by Photo-Oregon.com (a local company that offers photography workshops and a forested vacation rental venue). To demonstrate what's possible, hand-tinted original and giclee prints are showcased in the Manor's art alcoves. The photographs are provided by ThePhotoGuild.com (an online marketplace for products created by Southern Oregon artists).California sculptor, Carol Gold, considers the art studio to be an extension of the aesthetic atmosphere she enjoys during her regular visits to Flery Manor. "I was very excited when I saw the new art studio finally completed. The interior design, light, and secluded setting all contribute to a sense of serenity. That, for me, is such a necessary ingredient for my creative flow. I can't think of a more perfect place for making art and enjoying the natural landscape on view through each window."Carol discovered Flery Manor a few years ago. It's a convenient stopping point during her long drive from her home base north of San Francisco to her foundry and gallery in the Portland area. Carol enjoys her "mini-vacations" at the Manor. "There are few places where I have felt so relaxed and so well cared for. If Flery Manor happens to be full when I am planning a trip, I will change my driving dates so I can stay there. I feel nurtured from the moment I arrive -- as if I have been treated to a very special peaceful moment, as a pause from a very busy life."The praise doesn't stop there. In 2004, the Josephine County Board of Commissioners acknowledged the builder, Dennis Egli, with its "Best Art Studio Project of 2003" award. Mr. Egli was recognized for his work to construct "the smallest building with the most creative use of space". If all of this doesn't offer enough motivation to indulge guests' artistic muse, perhaps the hand-painted ceilings and walls in the Manor's common areas and suites will. The decorations highlight John and Marla's extensive art backgrounds. Three-course breakfasts expand upon the artistic theme with healthful food that is exquisitely arranged on fine china. In 1998, Chef Magazine recognized Marla's original Egg on a Cloud recipe as "strong on flavor, mouthfeel and presentation". About Flery ManorTo celebrate the Inn's 10th anniversary, John and Marla Vidrinskas are offering a 10% room discount to anyone who finds the 10 misspelled words on Flery Manor's web site at: www.FleryManor.com. The Bed and Breakfast Inn enjoys mountain views from seven acres nestled in a beautiful valley north of Grants Pass on Jumpoff Joe Creek Road -- just 1.5 miles off Interstate 5. Family heirlooms and antiques provide a very European feel. The Inn has hosted rich and famous guests, everyday business travelers, Oregon locals, and guests from the world over. The Inn also accommodates weddings, anniversaries, family reunions, and various local events.Contact Information:Marla VidrinskasFlery Manor 541-476-3591e-mail protected from spam botswww.flerymanor.comIrene GreenPhoto-Oregon.com & ThePhotoGuild.com800-490-9313 Phonee-mail protected from spam bots / www.Photo-Oregon.come-mail protected from spam bots / www.ThePhotoGuild.com.

Imagine opening your credit card statement one morning and discovering to your horror that you suddenly owe thousands of dollars - on purchases that you never made. Impossible? Credit card fraud on the rise, so you need to treat your card and its information with extreme care. Here are 10 tips to help insure you're not the victim of thieves and fraudsters: 1. Sign new and replacement cards immediately. 2. Destroy the old cards by cutting them into pieces and shred all old receipts and bills. 3. Don't fax your credit-card number, if possible. Remember, the faxed document could remain in sight at the other end for long periods of time. 4. Don't give your card number over the phone unless you have initiated the call. 5. Destroy any carbon paper if it's used as part of the credit card transaction. Somebody can grab it and forge your signature. 6. Don't respond to any "scam" e-mails requesting your credit card number. 7. Never send your credit card number in an e-mail to anyone! 8. A good option for discouraging theft is to choose a credit card that includes your photo and signature on the card. 9. If you have questions about mistakes or unauthorized items on your statement, you have the right to challenge them. 10. If your card is lost, stolen, or you suspect fraudulent use, call your company's 24-hour hotline immediately to prevent your card from being used as little as possible. The company will block its use, and you won't be responsible for any charges made by thieves. You'll never deter fraudsters completely. But you can certainly make life as difficult as possible for them..

If you plan to work at home or start your own home-based business, your home office should have some basic equipment to help you project a professional image. The proper tools will also help you stay productive, eliminating emergency trips to the office supply store.

1. First of all, you will need a desk. Your desk should have enough room for your computer and enough surface space for any writing you may need to do. If your computer desk isn't large enough, consider adding a table nearby. You will need pens, pencils, a stapler, paper clips, binders, computer paper, and a hole puncher for your desk. A small notebook for jotting down notes and reminders is also helpful.

2. Make sure that you get a comfortable chair for your desk. You may be spending a lot of time in it! Adjustable office chairs are best. That way you can raise or lower your chair according to the height of your desk.

3. A small three-drawer file cabinet will help you organize your paperwork. Get file folders and hanging file folders for your cabinet. As your business grows you can add larger file cabinets to suit your needs.

4. You will need a computer for your work at home endeavors. The amount of memory and the processing speed necessary will depend largely on the type of business or work you plan to do. Some work at home jobs list specific computer requirements. By the way, you may need to purchase a high-speed Internet connection for some jobs. If you need to buy a computer, make sure that you list your requirements and take the list with you when you go shopping. You will know what you are looking for and be in a better position to discuss your computer needs. Your computer may or may not have software installed. At the very least, you need to have good word processing software and virus protection for your computer.

5. A fax machine is also a good investment. You never know when a work at home company or a client will need you to send a hard copy document in a jiffy. Those of you who are interested in telecommuting will learn that you will need to fax tax forms and contractor agreements to companies. You can pay to fax documents through document copy centers, but that can get expensive.

6. A copier is helpful. You will have to make copies of contracts or client documents, and running to a copy center can get tedious. In fact, you can get more for your money if you obtain a copier, fax, and printer in one.

Do you need office equipment? Do you have office equipment that you would like to get rid of to make room for newer furniture or supplies? Check out the Freecycle Network (http://www.freecycle.org). It unites people who have a need for something they don't have with people who have something they don't need. This is a neat organization that helps break down communication barriers to make use of items that may otherwise end up in a landfill somewhere. Not only can you eliminate clutter to make room for your new home office, you can get good free, usable (sometimes new or lightly used) items through the Freecycle Network. There are local organizations that you can join throughout the United States and worldwide..

When I teach a new class learning digital photography, over 75% of the students turn up with the camera the salesman suggested.

Guess what? They soon find out that its wrong one for them. This can be a very expensive mistake. So the big questions are what is the right one for me and how do I know which is best for me.

One of the first things that you want to know about the camera that the salesman is trying to sell you is as follows -
How long does the camera take to turn on and be ready to take the shot? In the consumer market this can range between 1 to 5 seconds most being towards the 5 seconds mark.
How long does the camera take to focus on the subject? (not to take the picture) most cameras take between 1 to 3 seconds most at around the 1 second mark.
How long does the camera take to actually take the photo after you have pushed the shutter button completely? Again, most cameras take between 1to 3 seconds.
Now you can see to take a photo can take up to 5 seconds just to turn on and up to another 3 seconds to focus in and the up to another 3 seconds just to actually take the photo.

In a cheaper camera, but not necessarily cheaper it can be up to 9 seconds to take a photo. You may say "yes but I will leave my camera on" ok that's fine, but you may still have a lag time of up to 6 seconds just to take a photo.

Just imagine how annoying it will be now that you have purchased your new digital camera costing you around $400 - $500 to find that you just can't catch your child blowing out the candles because your new camera at the critical time of blowing the candles out took 1 second to focus and a further 2 seconds to take the photo.

What was the result?

A child sitting in front of a cake with black smouldering candles.

Can you set the white balance on your camera?

Just what is the white balance?

The white balance is simply this; if you were to look at a piece of white paper outside in the morning it looks white to you and I, that's because our eyes adjust to the blue light of morning but our camera sees the paper as light blue.

At noon the paper will look white to the camera and at dusk with the warm sun it will appear yellow. So we can set our cameras white balance to reflect the light at the time.

About 60% of digital cameras don't have this adjustment, you must buy one that can be set manually, not just one that has an "auto white balance" as they are not as good as they advertise.

Does your camera have different exposure modes?

Exposure modes are simply where does the camera take a light reading from? The cheaper cameras just do an all over reading which can be very limiting to say the least. A good camera will have a "spot", "centre weighted" and "matrix" metering system, which allows you to take great photos in any light situation.

When buying a digital camera, buy it for the fact that it's a camera not a video camera as well. One student showed me all the features her camera had and that's why it was more expensive ? the only thing that it didn't do well was take still pictures!

You can get so much out of your new digital camera you just have to put some time in for learning how to use it properly and how to take better pictures ? remember no one will ever want to look at a poor quality photo twice!

If you want to take really great pictures that will be in your family for years put in a little effort with your new digital camera. .

Bar Code Scanners - Know the Features

Barcode Scanners are hand-held or stationary devices used for capturing information from barcodes. A barcode scanner consists of a code reader and a decoder. These devices are connected to a computer through compatible ports

The earliest, most basic and cheapest barcode scanners consisted of a fixed light and a single photosensor. Modern barcode scanners have polygonal mirrors and use laser scanning technology. Laser barcode printers have the advantage of reading barcodes from any angle.

Barcode scanners are available in different varieties like hand-held, hands-free, wearable, rugged, scan engines, laser and digital. Pen-wand scanners are the simplest and most portable type of such devices. They have to be kept in direct contact with the barcode and held at a precise angle to interpret the barcodes. Modern day digital cameras have enough resolution to capture both 1D and 2D barcodes.
Barcode scanners can be distinguished as follows:
LED scanner: Also referred to as CCD scanners, even though the CCD is in fact the photo imaging sensor, not the light source.
Laser scanner: More expensive than LED scanners but are generally capable of longer maximum scanning distances.
Imager scanner: These scanners take an image of the linear barcode, generally more rugged as they have no moving parts.
2D Imaging scanner: These scanners take a 2D image of the barcode as in a camera and can be used to scan 2D barcode types such as Datamatrix as well as the more common linear barcode types.
Handheld scanner: With a handle and typically a trigger button for switching on the light source.
Pen scanner (or wand scanner): a pen-shaped scanner that is swiped.
Stationary scanner: Wall- or table-mounted scanners that the barcode is passed under or beside. These are commonly found at the checkout counters of supermarkets and other retailers.
Fixed position scanner: An industrial barcode reader used to identify products during manufacture or logistics. Most often used on conveyer tracks to identify cartons or pallets which need to be routed to another process or shipping location.
PDA scanner: A PDA with a built-in barcode reader.

The latest in barcode scanner technology is mobile barcode scanners which use color code and mCode (new two-dimensional code format) to scan barcodes.

General purpose barcode scanners are used at checkout counters and hospitals. These are also used to process identification documents. Certain other kinds of scanners, like rugged scanners, are used in harsh or extreme conditions. Of the different barcode scanners, laser scanners and camera scanners are widely used these days. Camera scanners scan and capture the barcode images, which are then processed by sophisticated image techniques to decode the barcode.

Barcode scanners have increased the speed of data retrieval and data processing. They have become a mainstay in commercial establishments, libraries, counters, and virtually at any point-of-sale.

The benefits of barcode scanners are many. It greatly helps you organize your inventory, monitor the movement of goods, and ensure the security of your premises. Bar Code technology is helping enterprises worldwide streamline their business and control costs at the same time.

Choosing a right barcode scanner is an essential step for better inventory management and customer service.

Barcode readers come in different forms, sizes and prices. Their prices range from $50 to several thousands depending on the features, built, durability etc.

However, before purchasing a laser or CCD scanner, define your requirements:
The type of environment where you are going to use the scanner
Consider the portability factor
The symbology you plan to follow
The average scanning range

Choose a credible and reliable company. Go for a bar code scanner which has proved its usability. POS Components has made it its goal to provide the customers with the right equipment, from the right manufacturer, and at the right price!.
